Unlike your typical art gallery, RedBubble does not charge their artists any fee to sell, or any commission on any of their sales. Instead, they simply set the base price of the product and let the artist set the retail value by adding their 'mark up'.

Approximate base prices are listed below (note that these base prices include VAT* when products are shipped to Europe and GST when products shipped to Australia):

*The VAT rate we use for the UK is 15% and for all shipments to continental Europe we use the relevant country VAT rate, but for simplicity we have used a VAT rate of 20% to display the Euro prices above.

My personal impressions

Since I joined RedBubble I had the impression that this community has a great sense of the relevance of art. Basically everybody is free to join and to post their art work, but browsing groups and keyword related searches I can only find quality images, symptom of the presence of a strict self-regulation with the purpose to keep the level elevate.
Another importan issue is the presence of theme related groups, the same day I add my photos I also receive invitations to join related groups; I accepted of course and, once submitted my photos, I received comments and constructive criticism. This way it's easier to find people with your same subject passion and get/give advices on how to improve approach and method.
The focus is oriented on art and not on selling art, although rewards are considerable you feel like an artist trying to look for inspiration than a merchant trying to sell at best price.

Fotegrafik - The East Conquest

Welcome Asian Style

Fotegrafik is a relatively young microstock agency because they operate in this market since July 2007 but is building the world’s largest and most comprehensive library of commercial and editorial images of Asian topics and interests. So Fotegrafik is preferably oriented towards the growing asian economy and this give them a great profit margin. On the other hand, asian oriented doesn’t mean asian exclusive! A great capture is a great capture, so don’t be shy and upload your best shots because also asian people can recognize a great photo!

Being still in the startup phase the website is rapidly becoming the platform of choice for many sales of the best photographers and rising stars in the field. The database is not so large and many topics and subjects are not yet well covered then some discarded images by other stock agencies are most likely accepted by Fotegrafik.

How it works

1. Registration - Fill in the registration form and accept the contributor agreement.

2. Activation - Click on the link found in your confirmation email, this will activate your account.

3. Audition - Upload 5 (or more) of your images that showcase your work, we will then review the images and confirm your registration.

4. Upload and Manage – You are then able to begin uploading images, add captions and keywords, add release forms and apply licenses.

5. Review process – When the images are ready, our editors would review them for quality control and may add additional keywords.

6. Sell – Your images are then ready for sale. While we do the work of selling your images, you can track your revenues and performance statistics, while submitting more and more content.

Once uploaded you can control which one of your images is on sale and which one is not. You can either freeze the image from being offered to customers, or you can completely delete it from the system. In both case, you have to give Fotegrafik an advance notice of 180 days, since the process of reviewing, storing and keywording your image is costly, and we would like to be given a chance to sell it.

Selling & Pricing

Payments are processed once a month, and are made at your request, by filling a short online form in your account pages on the website and as long as your account balance (net of Fotegrafik’s commissions) is above US $200. You may request various payment methods (e.g. Cheque / Wire transfer / Paypal) but the banking administration charges would be charged to your account and deducted from your net balance.
Please review the contract for the full terms and conditions before selling your images on Fotegrafik’s website.

Prices for images are based on market standards. As Fotegrafik is a premium provider of quality stock photography, typically our prices average more than several hundred US dollars, although wide variations can occur. Rights Managed images have a calculator that will adjust the price for each individual sale, depending on the intended usage of the image, while Royalty Free image prices are based on the size. You are able to view the standard prices on your account pages on the website, but the final sale prices may vary depending on the discount rates and agreements with our customers.

You, as a contributor would earn between 50-70% of the sale. We strongly believe in long-term relationships, sharing the success and paying more to high performing contributors, which is the basis of our commission bonus scheme:

New contributor accounts begin with a revenue share rate of 50% on revenues.
An additional bonus of 1% would be automatically given to new sales for every 30 photos that you uploaded (and were accepted) up to a total bonus of 10% (for 300 photos).
Example: If you keep a portfolio of 180 photos you would earn an additional 6%.
A bonus of 1% would be given to your share automatically for every US$2,000 of sales, up to a total bonus of 5%. The more you sell the more you get paid.
An additional bonus of 5% would be given to contributors by promoting your images by becoming your own sales agent. Fotegrafik will provide you with a special URL that you could use as a link in your website / email signature / blog… this URL would link back to your portfolio on Fotegrafik website. In the event that a customer completes a purchase which originated from your link – you would be credited with a bonus of 5% from that sale.

Eventually, dedicated photographers with good sales and good-sized portfolio would earn up to 70% of the sales. A RF (Royalty Free) image is usually sold at about $ 80, while a licensed RM (Royalty Managed) image varies according with the usage that the customer will do with it: generally it starts from a minimum of $ 100, and get over $ 1000.

My personal impressions

I joined Fotegrafik since some weeks ago so sincerely I still can’t produce a checked and reviewed opinion (I will inform if significant changes will occur). Certainly I can assure the gear of uploading and reviewing the images is working without problems, the internal search engine is equally operating, but in this moment I had some visits and no sell. Maybe in my uploading selection I didn’t meet the asian tastes or maybe I better wait more to get the first sell, anyway it’s an amazing challenge that a stock photo contributor should take! The rewards look very attractive so why not!

Ghiacciaio Vatnajökull

Island, letteralmente "terra dei ghiacci", sembra essere il nome più appropriato per quest'isola di 103125 km² "sospesa" tra l'Europa e la Groenlandia. Circa 1/6 del territorio è ricoperto da ghiacciai ed il più grande di questi è il Vatnajökull, che si estende nella parte sudorientale dell'isola per ben 8100 km².
Si tratta di un colosso lungo 135 Km e largo 100 km con uno spessore medio di 400-600 mt e un picco di 1000 mt nella parte centrale dove raggiunge i 2119 mt sul livello del mare. Dalla foto è facile intuire che si tratti di un ghiacciaio "a calotta" in quanto il rivestimento del terreno sottostante avviene in maniera pressochè omogenea ed il risultato è un paesaggio sinuoso dove si alternano altipiani e gole.
Il versante più famoso è sicuramente rappresentato dal Fjallsjökull, una lingua di ghiaccio che prende il nome dall'antica fattoria Fjalls, inghiottita durante il secolo XVI, e si estende verso sud fino ad arrivare ad un piccolo lago glaciale collegato al mare attraverso uno stretto canale: la laguna di Jökulsárlón che, con i suoi 18 km² costellati da iceberg di vari colori e dimensioni, è sicuramente una delle mete obbligate per chi visita questo paese.
Inesorabile, col passare degli anni, il gelo contribuisce a consolidare le abbandanti nevicate conferendo al Vatnajökull un aspetto imponente ed immutabile, facilmente ammirabile dalla Ring Road, la strada che lo lambisce per decine di kilometri sul versante sud, soprattutto all'ora del tramonto quando il ghiacciaio si arricchisce di splendidi riflessi dorati.
In realtà il Vatnajökull è solo in apparenza un'immensa coperta poggiata su un territorio ondulato: la parte nordoccidentale del ghiacciaio si estende su alcuni vulcani attivi tra i quali il Grimsvötn, che nel 1996 diede vita ad un importante fenomeno sismico che originò un cratere dal quale affiorò una nuova montagna, la cui cima era originariamente situata 200 mt sotto la calotta. Il risultato fu una piccola isola circondata da un catino di acqua bollente a sua volta circondato da ghiacci perenni. La tracimazione verso sud delle acque calde provocò l'inondazione di una zona desertica rendendola così paludosa; oggi, le nevicate hanno ricoperto tutto e l'unica traccia visibile è un lago vulcanico, anch'esso meta imperdibile per chi si avventura da queste parti.

Si tratta di un sito esclusivamente in inglese ma, una volta che ci si è registrati, diventa facilmente navigabile anche grazie ad uno specifico tutorial per chi aspira a diventare fotografo dove vengono descritte le regole del sito.
Prima di essere accettati come fotografi è necessario superare un test specifico con il quale BigStockPhoto si assicura che l'utente abbia capito quali siano i propri diritti e i propri doveri.
I formati accettati sono JPG, EPS, AI, PSD, PDF e PNG; è necessario che tutte le foto o le illustrazioni siano opera esclusiva di chi esegue l'upload.

Il pay rate è pari al 50% del fatturato di BigStockPhoto derivante dalla vendita, ma può anche salire nel caso in cui una foto/illustrazione venga venduta con licenze d'uso speciali.
Il pagamento avviene attraverso assegno oppure tramite Paypal o MoneyBookers.

123RF - ..per foto e illustrazioni

Alle spalle di 123RF c'è un marchio, Inmagine, che è sicuramente sintomo di serietà e il design raffinato del sito non fa che confermare questa tesi. Attualmente 123RF detiene circa il 2% del fatturato totale delle microstocks ma la facilità di interazione col sito stesso attrae molti fotografi e sviluppatori di immagini vettoriali.

123RF è molto orientata verso le illustrazioni vettoriali ma non trascura assolutamente la fotografia: è dotata del sistema di upload immagini decisamente più snello rispetto alle concorrenti e offre un database che da poco ha superato i 4 milioni di referenze. Il contribuente riceve il 50% del fatturato legato alla vendita dei propri lavori, mentre per gli acquisti da parte degli abbonati sono leggermente inferiori.

Sistema di classificazione dei fotografi

Siamo i primi a proporre un sistema di classificazione che permette al fotografo di essere ricompensato secondo il successo del suo portfolio di immagini. Quando l'Autore passa ad una fascia superiore in classifica, può inserire prezzi di vendita più elevati e riceverà commissioni più elevate per ogni vendita (valido per alcune opzioni di vendita e posizioni in classifica, vedi pagina Collaboratori per info).

Vendita internazionale

Fotolia è già presente in 10 paesi : Francia, Italia, Germania, Inghilterra, Spagna, Portogallo, Stati Uniti, Brasile, Giappone, Polonia. Abbiamo previsto di inserirci nella maggior parte dei paesi europei e di estenderci fino all' Asia. Per esempio, i fotografi che sottopongono le loro foto in italiano, possono vendere le loro immagini durante la notte negli USA grazie al nostro motore di ricerca multilingue.

Programma d" affiliazione

Gli iscritti Fotolia possono guadagnare crediti convertibili in euro offrendo un accesso al sito ai loro amici o clienti attraverso il nostro programma di affiliazione. I guadagni si maturano dall'acquisto immagini degli utenti affiliati.

Protezione delle immagini

La tecnologia Digimarc della firma delle immagini permette di diminuire i rischi ed è un valido aiuto nella ricerca di immagini . Nel caso in cui un' immagine sia utilizzata in maniera illegale fuori dalle condizioni della sua licenza,noi siamo in grado di rintracciare chi ha contravvenuto alle regole.

Quanto paga iStock?

Per ogni transazione, il fotografo riceve una retribuzione pari al 50 per cento. Le immagini esclusive ricevono una retribuzione pari al 60 per cento, mentre i fotografi esclusivi godono di un bonus supplementare di $0.20 per ogni immagine approvata. Tenendo conto di tutti i bonus che sono concessi al compratore, gli effettivi diritti d’autore possono arrivare fino all’80% o più.
